The Santa Claus looks to be 3-Dimensional and covered with Christmas lights that match up the color of his suit. He also seems to be holding a blue lantern. You don't have to worry about power surge. The only thing that will likely happen is that you will throw a breaker or depending on how old your house is, blow a fuse. The best thing you can do is find out how many amps the breaker or fuse supplying the outlets in your garage is rated for. Then look at the amount of amps each of your light strings draw. Assuming that there is nothing else drawing power from the circuit that your outlets are on, you can use as many light strings as you want without exceeding the amp rating of that circuit. The problem with connecting more than three strings together is that the gauge (or thickness) of the wire cannot handle the amount of power being drawn thru them to supply all of the lights. That's when things get dangerous! Wires can melt and cause a fire…not a very merry Christmas
Your best bet is to buy a couple of heavy duty extension cords (the really thick ones) to run out to your display areas, and then plug heavy duty power strips into them. That will safely (and with very little extra effort) get you much more power, much closer to where you need it. Hope that helps!

I work at the Post Office. It's totally up to us if we choose to answer the letters. My office never did. Now that I'm thinking of it, maybe they totally did away with anyone answering. I think there was a huge controversy over it a few years ago. Someone actually did answer a letter that a parent didn't know was sent or something like that.
There is a company that you can pay to get a letter from Santa.
Or you could just set up a generic email for them to use.
I always thought it was sad that we had to throw away all the Santa letters. We even get letters addressed to people in Heaven. I have a hard time throwing them away. It's silly but I usually leave them for someone else.

Santa Clause, also known as Saint Nicholas, was a worshiper of Christ who believed that one of the best ways to show your love for fellow man was to give away. He gave poor brides their dowries and poor children nuts and fruits and candies, sometimes clothes, to help them out. The spirit of Saint Nicholas, the idea of giving without any thought of what you receive and to help others, is very much in connection with Christ.
Reindeer was used in "The Night Before Christmas" as his form of travel, although there's no real reason to believe in reindeer. In the American West, for instance, he was usually seen on a buckboard with horses or on horseback.
Elves, like Santa, were connected with doing good deeds with no one seeing who did it. The shoemaker and the elves for instance. It's that same spirit of giving with no consideration of what you will receive, doing it anonymously and with only good wishes for the person.
Christ is known as the light of the world, and the old story of Babooska (sp) says that when you place a light in the window you are inviting people to come and share your hospitality. The later traditions of putting strings of lights up came about more after the electrical light was made and people began stringing them up for holidays and fun times. It became limited more to Christmas because of the cost of electricity. Here's a fun fact. When they first started making strings of Christmas lights, they gave electricity away for FREE for them! My parents remember that. It was like after WWII.
That made it far more of an American Tradition to light up your house than anything else. On a plus note, unlike other countries, America doesn't normally set off fireworks for Christmas anymore.
The Christmas tree is a more complicated symbol. Martin Luther is credited for bringing it from the Germanic tribes, where they used the tree as a symbol of continued life through the winter. Since Christ is the symbol of eternal life, it was a simple symbol to convert for Christians. Druids may have also had something to do with it since early Saints in Scotland were often also druids (they didn't see any contradiction in the religions) and druidic celebrations often centered around trees. The red glass balls are most associated with a celebration early Christians did to act out the Garden of Eden (hanging apples on the trees.) The star of course is the star of Bethlehem. The lights being the heavens. The candy cane is connected to the tradition of a J or shepherd's hook (Jesus or the great shepherd) flavored with peppermint (I was told it has something to do with one of the flavors mentioned in the bible, but I'm not sure about this one) and with red and white stripes to represent the blood of Christ and how it washes you white as snow (bible reference.) Some of the older factories even take the time to make 3 smaller stripes and then a large stripe for God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, then as 'one'. On a traditional tree usually are foods to eat more than decorations, though these days it's more decorations.
I hope this helps some. There are some traditions that have nothing to do with Christ (the strings of lights for instance. A candle in the window works much better, but it's America, we overdo it.) But many of the symbols do have Christian meanings that people forget or credit Pagan meanings for them. What matters is the meaning the person has when they use them.

I have a cape too. It may not help you this year but plant a miniture evergreen tree in your front yard. They grow to about 8 ft and make nice outside Christmas trees. I cover mine in LED lights.
